Three years ago today, September 3rd, we arrived in Ontario after moving from Newfoundland. What a journey it has been and one of our joys is to be closer to our children. Now in September 2018, it was time to rent another U-Haul, this time to move our son, his wife and our grandson from Ontario to Gatineau, Quebec. That’s where this story gets interesting.

I went to pick up the rental truck, only to be told the 15-foot truck my daughter-in-law had booked was in an accident that day and had to be inspected before it could be rented again. He said, “I have another truck for you though; it’s a little bigger. Would that be OK?”

I replied by explaining how they had moved from Toronto a month ago in a 15-foot truck. They had stored their things in our garage but since that time, had purchased an oak table with 6 chairs plus two night tables for their bedroom, so an extra 5 feet would be a bonus.

Here is how Amanda explained that day on her Facebook post:

The one thing she didn’t really explain was that the Home Depot in Carleton Place could not actually deliver to Quebec, so we would need a means to transport the fridge and stove ourselves. I quickly realized why we now had a 20′ truck despite ordering a smaller version. Here’s how my wife Cathy saw things:

The more I thought about it, it was like someone knew and even arranged a larger truck for us to make the move. When I picked up the truck earlier, I had understood Home Depot was delivering the appliances to their Gatineau home the following day. I had no idea they would need the extra space in the truck. Obviously, neither did the guy at U-Haul. Just a side note, Labour Day weekend is the busiest weekend for U-Haul, with all the back-to-school moves, so getting a truck, let alone the size we unknowingly needed, is a miracle.

It’s easy to say this was just coincidence and you can believe it was only by chance that all of these details fell into place. I would rather believe there is someone bigger than you or I who cares for us and is able to orchestrate things beyond what we can even imagine. That is the reason I made this comment in response to Amanda’s post:

I’m so thankful they saved more than $800 less for the fridge and stove they had ordered, picked up a truck of the perfect size despite booking one 5′ shorter. Despite the stressful moments, it all came together beautifully.

There are times when things go wrong and they just don’t come together. We can easily, in anger, question God, “Why is all this happening?” If we can question Him during those times, then why not rejoice and give Him glory when things actually do work out for good?
